Crochet penguin pattern free

This is the original pattern of Pip the Little Christmas Penguin designed by Yevheniia Romanchuk (LovenikaDesign). Pattern is written in US terminology.

This crochet penguin pattern is for personal use only. You may sell the finished toy you make with these instructions but you are NOT permitted to sell, copy, translate, share or distribute the pattern in digital or written form.

Finished size

Using similar yarn and a 2.25mm (size B) crochet hook, the penguin is approximately 12 cm (4 inches).

Supplies

1. Yarn: This example was crocheted with cotton yarn YarnArt Jeans (50g = 180yards / 165m, Sport, 12wpi) color 53 (black) – for the body, color 35 (yellow) – for legs and gift, color 01 (white) – for body, color 26 (red) – for nose and hat, color 75 (blue) – for hat.
2. Crochet hook: 2.25 mm (size B), or in accordance with the yarn you use.
3. Fiberfill.
4. Long needle.
5. Scissors, pins.

Notes

  • Turn your work and ch1 in the beginnin of the each row.
  • Change color when finishing the previous stitch.
  • When changing colors, leave all the threads on the wrong side.
  • Do not stuff neither the wings no the legs.
  • When attaching parts, make sure to check for symmetry.

NOTE: When the color change occurs on the seamy side (S), all working threads must be left in front of the work just before the change.

When the color change takes place on the front side (F), all the working threads must be left behind the work.

2nd row is a seamy side, all threads left in front of the work.

NOTE: When changing color from white to black in the 2nd row I attach NEW black yarn, not those I used before. Now I have 2 black yarns in my crocheting, one of them is for right side of the detail, second one for left side of the detail.

Cut the red yarn, tie the ends.

Wing (make 2):

With black yarn:
Ch2, start in the 2nd ch from the hook:

2-3:   2sc (2 rows) (2)

5-6:   4sc (2 rows) (2)
Do not turn your work after row 6.

7: crochet around the detail: 6sc on one side, 4sc in the last st (first chain), 6sc on the other side. Cut the yarn.

Make the second wing in the same way.

Legs (make 2):

With yellow yarn, work in continuous rounds (with no ss and no ch1 after each round):
Ch4, start in the 2nd ch from the hook:
1:       inc, sc, 4sc in the last chain, on the other side of the chain: sc, inc (10)

2:       sc in each st around (10)
3:       (dec, sc, dec)*2 (6)
4:       though both sides of the piece: 3sc (3)

Cut the yarn.
Make the second leg in the same way.

Gift:

With yellow yarn:

Ch6, start in the 2nd ch from the hook:

1-5:    5sc (5)

6: inc, 3sc, 3sc in the last st, continue to crochet around the detail: 4sc on the side, 3sc in the last st, 4sc on the next side, 3sc in the last st, 4sc on the last side, join with a ss or use invisible finish method.

Assembly

Place the front and back panels together, seamy sides inward.

Join red yarn to the left side of the hat through both panels. Crochet sc around the details through both panels, change color of yarn when you get to a different color.

When you change color to black: 6sc, place wing on the body, continue crochet sc in each next st through 3 layers: wing, front and back panels.

When you get to the corner of the body: 3sc in the corner.

On the bottom side: 2sc, 3ss through front panel, leg and back panel (look at the picture), 4sc, 3ss with the second leg, 2sc, 3sc in the corner, continue sc in each next st.

Attach the second wing symmetrically.

Crochet inc in the corners of hat (on blue pompon).

Don’t forget to stuff the toy.

Embroider eyes in the same row where the red nose is.
